Over the recent few months I’ve spent a fair bit of time working on projects.apache.org. It’s an idea that I had stored away in my memory for a very long time and one that I strongly believed in. Now that it’s almost complete I still have trouble believing that it’s actually happened. The basic concept, [...]

The next step towards the UK becoming a police state was taken today when the commons voted for the ID legislation. It represenets a remarkable abuse of democracy when over 60% of the public are opposed to such legislation, but it will be law before long. This one act has more potential to change the [...]

The BeOS community is certainly undergoing a change at the present time and I’m not really sure where it will lead or if it’s for the better or worse in the long term. What I am reasonably sure is that it’s going to lead to pain in the short term for a lot of people. [...]

Apparently yT has private copies (repositories) of some “open source” projects. They seem to be (according to the story I heard) porting in changes made to the public repositories but not returning the favour. This sort of behaviour sucks. Do we really want to play this game?

Having been a member, a team leader, no less, of OpenBeOS and having followed [...]

Jess Tipton recently wrote an editorial for BeOS Journal entitled A Practical Look At The Future Of “BeOS” . As has been seen far too often the article was a backwards look as he has decided to leave BeOS behind for pastures more productive. The timing of his article was fortuitous as I’d already decided [...]

I recently finished reading a trilogy of books that I’d started over a year and a half ago. The story started out really well but then developed in directions that seemed to slow the pace and develop into areas that weren’t as interesting as the original premise. Ultimately the story told seemed lacking and I [...]

There are some questions that don’t have a sensible answer. They tend to be questions that depend on too many variables and the only good response is a question. One of these questions that I get asked from time to time is “What computer should I buy?” My response has changed over the years but [...]

Earlier today I watched the first episode of a tv series that has been already been cancelled in the US, but is only just making to the UK. As I watched it I found myself in two minds about whether it was a good idea. Knowing that something you’re about to invest in is already [...]
