Just a few ramblings on life
Another visit to the “Mile High” city. Great sunset.
Another good evening ends on the train home from Victoria! Of course we had the unscheduled stop at Selhurst so it took an extra few minutes to get home.
Another great day in Bermuda! Warm but not too sunny or humid.
OK, so it’s not really (go outsdie and check if you don’t believe me - it’s still there) but it may as well be. Confirmed blog hater Ben has finally given up his struggle against the overwhelming tide of blogs and joined in! You can find his blog at http://www.links.org.
Missed the train I was aiming for as the connection from London Bridge was late. It was raining though…
For the last few weeks I’ve been getting phone calls from a number that I didn’t recognise. When I answered the line would go dead. Calling the number back and there was arecorded message explaining they’d tried to contact me, but not to worry they’d try again! They weren’t wrong. As the calls came [...]
My new PCI graphics card arrived today so I finally ahve both screens working. Getting them working in X took a little while, but the secret seems to be that the “Screen” setting is only needed when you have multi-heads on a single card, not multiple cards. It was very annoying to see the repeated [...]
Over the last year I’ve hired a car several times from Europcar. They have good rates and their cars have always been OK. The thing that makes me keep going back is that they seem to provide good customer service. I was charged for an extra day’s hire as I exceeded 24 hours while waiting [...]
This last few days I’ve been working on integrating using client certs with httpd’s auth scheme and mod_authz_svn. After a lot of to & fro it now works as I’d like, with one large exception!
The issue is that the ASF has an existing set of svn users, all of whom currently use a password to [...]
Skype may have had all the hype recently but it’s not the only player in town. Despite Skype being an easy app to run, it is a closed protocol and so goes against my desire to use as much open source software as I can. When making the recent move to FreeBSD/Gnome for my desktop [...]
One of the most annoying aspects of using Gnome & FreeBSD is the connectivity with external devices. getting the iPod working was quite quick, but I’m still not able to get my Palm working. Reading through posts on the subjectI found through web searches seems to show that connecting a Palm isn’t straightforward and many [...]
SASL is a very useful library that I’ve been using for years. It has one very annoying feature lacking though - an inability to handle crypt’d passwords. In an ideal world no password would ever be sent in the clear, but we don’t live in an ideal world and despite trying to persuade users to [...]
